Bucket List

  'Bucket List'. Some people say that they don't have to write a bucket list, because they are still young, and it'll take a long time for them to die. Yes, bucket lists are things that you want to do before dying. But there's more than that. Bucket lists are magical lists that will make our life spectacle and enjoyable. So I decided to write my own bucket list.





1. Become a student of KMLA
  At first, I wanted to enter Yongin International High School. But after getting advices from PAs, I decided to be a student of KMLA. It will be very hard to enter KMLA, but I'll try my best.



2. Become a PA/TA of GLPS

  If I become a student of KMLA, I will be able to assist students in GLPS as a PA or a TA. I will help the students have dreams and try their best.



3. Enter energy engineering faculty of Seoul University

  In the future, I want to be a scientist who studies bio-energy using microalgae. So this faculty in Seoul University would be a great place to accomplish my dream. I will study hard to get there.



4. Get master's degree in my faculty

  I don't want to be a scientist who always follow old things, but a scientist who makes new things. So I'll get master's degree in energy engineering, to have 'real' and 'professional' studies. I think it will take about 10 years, but I'll try my best to get it as soon a possible.



5. Try bungee jump once again

  About two years ago, I have tried bungee jumping. It was not that high, but was thrilling experience for me. So I want to go bungee jumping again, to a higher place.



6. Try scuba-diving

  Last fall, I've tried 'sea-walking' in Thailand. But there were a number of rope around me, and I had to follow the advisor. So alter, I want to learn scuba-diving and try it on my own.



7. Climb Mt. Baekdu

  I don't really enjoy climbing mountains(In fact, I hate all kinds of sports), but there's one mountain that I want to climb: Mt. Baekdu. Since Korea is divided into two parts, I have to have a flight to China to visit the mountain. It'll be much better if Korean peninsula is united, and I could go right up to Mt. Baekdu.



8. Help one child in Africa

  These days, our class(in school) is helping a child in Africa, using a program of 'WorldVision'. With the help of the organization, we can help one child by donating money. When I grow up, I will help one child in Africa.



9. Plant a tree

  According to many news articles, planting tree helps recovering the global environment. Later, I want to plant a tree to make the world a better place.



10. Become a national representative

  In the future, I want to be a person who represents South Korea. It can be anything, like competition or a council. I will become the representative and make people proud of our country.





  Until now, I think I have lived quite a normal life. But I believe that this bucket list will make my life more enjoyable. I will try my best to make this list come true.

One picture A Day - FOOD

  As you know, life in GLPS is very busy, and harsh. So most students have difficulties in dealing with their problems like homework and assignments. However, there's one thing that helps us to stand the hard life: FOOD. Food is one of the most important parts in my life. So I want to introduce what I ate in GLPS.


Happiest Moment of a Day 
  In the fourth period and the seventh period, I feel so tired because of all my works in classes. But I can stand those thanks to the cafeteria and our meals. When I feel tired, I think about the next meal and cheer me up. So I feel so happy when I enter the cafeteria and wait in line. Sometimes, I am disappointed to see the menu, but most of them satisfy me. In this picture, I am waiting in a line to get my side menu. On this day, the side menu didn't look tasteful. It looked rather disgusting. But when I tried it, it was quite delicious even though it was too salty. Looking at this picture, I imagine my self standing in a cafeteria. The food smells great(or maybe 'attractive')!



Best Menu in GLPS
  For me, this was the best menu in GLPS. I don't remember when, but I was so hungry when I ate this. I loved most of them, but bulgogi was my favorite. I was little greasy, but it smelled delicious. Also, it was so tender that it melted before chewing. Also, I loved the salad. It was very fresh as if there's spring inside my mouth.

Ready…… Go!
  This is a picture taken by my friend, before having my meal. My friends also say that I look so happy before eating something. In this picture, I can see myself getting ready to eat. I look happy. But I cannot stop myself even now. Food on the picture will melt as ice in my mouth, and it would have smelt marvelous if I could do so.


Better Together !
  Even though I enjoy eating, it won't be enjoyable without my friends. In the cafeteria, I always have meals with my five roommates, chatting and stealing each other's food. In this picture, we are having our lunch together. We look like a family, and we feel friendly to all of us. But sometimes, I become jealous to my roommates because food on their dishes look so delicious!

  After having a meal, I have to wait for about three minutes. One of my best friends requires a long time when she eats something. At the moment of this picture, I didn't know that my friend was taking a picture. So it is the real, and natural part of me. I look so full in this picture. the menu of this day looked amazing, so I got plenty of these dishes. But I regretted doing so, because I had to eat all of them. In the picture, the dish looks very neat and clean.

  But the meals are not the only parts in my eating life. Right after having our meals, we come back to the dorm and have some snacks for dessert. In this picture, I can see some trash, which is our trash created by eating snacks. Surprisingly, this trash was created in a day, or 24 hours. And the picture on the right is the trash can 1 hour later. We are accumulating our snack bags in the trash can. When I look at this picture, I can see a fatty man standing in front of me.



  I like food in GLPS, but I sometimes want to go home because I cannot eat much instant food. I know that instant food has negative impact on human bodies, but it is so delicious. Especially, I miss ramen in GLPS. This is a picture of ramen on the Internet. Noodle looks greasy, and the soup part will be spicy, but more delicious than meals in GLPS.



  Right now, class 19 is in the fourth period, so I am so hungry. I wish I could get into this page and try some ramen. But when this class ends, I will run to the cafeteria and have lunch. EATING is the most happiest part in my life.

Hear my VOICE !

Dear Minister of Education, Seo Nam-soo

  Hello, I'm Erica, one of the middle school students in GLPS. You will not be familiar with me, but I want you to read this letter and think ab
out my opinion.

  Since you are the minister of education, I think that you realize how significant education is. Education decides what universities students go, what subjects students have as their major, and what life students will live. In other words, education decides everything in a student's life. So people who are related to education should always pay attention to what students think about their education. Today, I am writing this letter because I think there's something wrong with the Korean educational system. Most students in Korea must follow the schedules that are managed by their school. However, I think that students should be allowed to choose what subject they're going to take.

  To begin with, students can use their time effectively. Right now, some students are forced to waste their time, taking classes that they don't want. Let me give you an example, sir. I have a friend who doesn't like to sing, and she has four music classes a week. She has been complaining about it, because she thinks the music classes doesn't help her at all. She says that she wants to use her time differently and in a more effective way. I agree with her idea. Students should be able to study subjects that they want to take, instead of taking useless classes. For example, my friend can take more science classes instead of music classes. It will help students study more advanced issues.

  Next, if students become able to decide their own schedules, it will have a great influence on their career. These days, students tend to lack time for finding their dreams. They are forced to study all the subjects even if they don't want to. In contrast, if they can choose what subjects they take, they will have plenty of time to search for their career, since they can take more subjects that they want to take. For instance, my elder sister attends in a special high school. When she was in a middle school, she had four science classes a week. In contrast, she has eight science classes in the high school, two chemistry, three biology, and three physics. After taking those classes, she decided to choose physics as her major. If students are able to make their own schedules, they will be able to find their career earlier.

  Finally, students will be happier by the change of the educational policy. These days, I think that students do not feel happy enough as a teenager. I want to support my idea with a statistic. It is a statistic about teenagers' suicide.

  As you can see, about 22% of teenagers have talked or thought about committing suicide. It is an incredibly high rate, which means that many students do not live happily enough. I think that we can fix this problem with the change of the policy. First of all, students do not have enough time to exercise, and it causes massive problem to teenagers. I want to support my idea with a statistic.

  According to this statistic. obesity rate of children and teenagers skyrocketed in a few decades. I believe that the cause of this problem is lack of exercise. In addition, I think that exercise is much more significant than taking useless subjects. So we have to change this policy, and provide more time for teenagers to exercise. Furthermore, students do not have enough time to talk with their parents and siblings. It is essential for teenagers to get along with their families, since they are immature. They have to talk more with their families, and establish their identities. If students don't have to take classes that they don't want to take, it will help them have more time with their families. Of course, students will be much happier since they will have better relationship with their families.


  As you can see, students' life will be much better with the change of the policy. Based on my arguments, I hope you will consider my point of view.

Time Manager John

  Bang!
  A head was smashed against a window. The hand was smashing the head as if it was squeezing some orange juice, and his face was red as a tomato. One day morning, John, a 12-year-old boy, was being bullied in a school bus.
  "Doooon't do that. Please! I'm telling you homeroom teacher!"
  "Tell it, tattletale! If you do, I will throw you off the bus on our way home."
  Tom, a boy with thick eyebrows and a big body smashed John's face again. The scenery of students going to school passed his eyes. It has been three months since John transferred to Yourtown. Also, it has been three months since John started to be bullied in the school bus. Starting three months ago, Tom and his huge friends teased John, each and every day. And the situation was not different in the classroom. Tom often came to his class and took off his pants in front of other students. At first, there were some and students that wanted to become closer with John, but soon they turned their backs from him due to the pressure of Tom.
  And there were many more things except for it, like overturning his dish and stealing his homework. So this morning was not special at all to John. His morning has been like this for last three months. However, John felt especially angry and upset this morning. He thought,
  'If I could smash his face against the window! If he could feel painful as I do!'

  As soon as John entered his homeroom, he took out his math homework, because the first class would be with Amanda Ivy, the scariest teacher in Yourtown. He finished the homework before, so he put his book on the table and went to sleep. But soon he woke up, since he heard the sound of tearing papers. No, it was not just a sound. Tom was really tearing John's math book into pieces, in front of him. John got really mad, and shouted,
  "DON'T DO THAT!"
  All in sudden, John saw the world dyed in grey. Everything has stopped, and he couldn't hear any sound. John looked around, surprised more than anyone else in the world. He simply didn't know what to do. After being in panic for a couple of minutes, he pinched his cheek to check if he was dreaming. And of course(or 'surprisingly' to some of you), he felt painful, which meant this was reality.
  He started to walk around the classroom. He carefully raised his hand, and touched Tom's arm, which was tearing his book. He felt very weird, ad if he was touching cloud. After touching many other parts of his body, John looked at his eye, and realized that he wasn't blinking his eyes. John thought,
  'Everything has stopped! Then, how about the clock?'
  And he turned his face to the clock. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, ……. After watching the clock for eight seconds, John knew that the time has stopped. He started to panic again.
  'What should I do? Am I dreaming? But it is too realistic to be a dream. Is everyone tricking me? But how did they make their skin grey? If the time has really stopped, would it last forever? Then what should I do? Do I have to live alone, forever? Or is there anyone moving like me? Then where is he?'
  He started to feel sad, so he decided to move to another place to find someone else. But before leaving, he wanted to move Tom away from his seat. So John tilted his body and pulled it to the door. And when he opened the door, he was very surprised since Amanda Ivy was standing right in front of him. John was not able to get Tom out of the classroom, so he just put Tom's body against Amanda Ivy. And then he thought,
  'Well, this might be a realistic dream. Then, I want to do some tricks to Tom at least in my dream.'
  John carefully raised Tom's hands against the teacher, with a playful smile than ever. And then he bent all of his fingers, except for the third one. In other words, Tom was standing in front of the scariest teacher, with his third fingers stretched.
  'Wow, it looks really good. I wish it was not a dream, so that Mrs.Ivy becomes mad at him.'
  Then he went back to his seat to bring his money and jacket. And suddenly, everything started to be colored, starting from John's desk. A few seconds later, the whole classroom was in color, and all the students started to move around and chat together. John looked at the clock again, and the second hand was moving again. But he had to turn around when he heard this sound,
  "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, TOM!"
  And he realized that it wasn't his dream, and he made Tom stand in front of Amanda, with his third fingers raised.
  "Why, Mrs. Amanda? Wait, why a, I holding my third fingers?"
  "Be quiet, boy,"
  "No, Mrs. Amanda. I don't know what's going on. I was tearing John's math homework, right over there."
  "I said 'be quiet'! And did you bully John? It's a big problem. Follow me, to the teacher's room!"
  "No, no, Mrs.Amanda. Owwww!"
  Watching this scary thin, John was still confused. But he felt very happy to see Tom beaten by Mrs. Amanda. Also, he realized that he got the ability to stop time, as if he were a hero of a movie!
  But he didn't know how to stop the time. He wanted the 'magic' to happen again, so he tried to repeat what he did a few seconds ago(or 'a long time ago' to John). He sat on his chair, and whispered 'Don't do that' to himself.
  As soon as he said 'Don't do that', everything went grey and stopped again. Instead of doing something strange, John counted from one to know how long the magic lasted. And when he counted 10 minutes and 18 seconds, everything was in color and started to move. After doing some more experiments, he learned that 'Don't do that!' was the magic spell, and the magic lasted for about ten minutes.
  After Amanda Ivy started the class, John didn't use the magic to concentrate on class. But he used magic twice, to sleep during the class, and to eat lunch faster than others. And when he saw Tom crying in front of the teacher's room, John thought,
  'I can make my life better with this magic!'

  A few days have passed, and John has used the magic very frequently. At first, he used the magic for convenience, like doing his homework or getting in the bus. But later, he started to do some bad behaviors like stealing something from the stores ad and punching others. And this time, John was cheating the math test after using the magic.
  But John didn't feel comfortable using this magic. He felt as if someone was staring at him. And in fact, someone was really staring at him! It was Sally, a quiet girl, who was staring at him, and John realized that Sally was not in grey, but in colors.
  John booked at Sally's face for a few seconds, and his eyes met Sally's eyes. Suddenly, Sally stood and walked toward John, and said,
  "Don't use the magic!"
  "What?"
  "I said, don't use the magic!"
  "Well, why? And how did you know about my magic?"
  "I'm not gonna say for a long time, but I've been watching you since you used the magic for the first time. I thought that it would be okay for you to use the magic, since you used it to prevent bullying. But now, it's not! You are using the magic to do bad behaviors."
  John panicked, but decided to say what he really thought.
  "No, I'm going to use it as much as possible. It has made my life much better! So don't care about me! By the way, are you going to say this to your friends?"
  "No, I'm telling nobody. But I'm warning you. Do not use the magic!"
  And the magic stopped, and the class finished.

  A few minutes later, he was standing in front of the school to take the school bus. John thought about Sally's advice.
  "'Don't use the magic'? Why do I have to? She said that she's telling nobody, so I will use the magic."
  Soon, Tom stood next to him because they were using the same bus. Tom was very angry since there were some disastrous events every time he tried to make fun of John. So he pushed John's shoulder with his fists, and then punched his face. John got really mad, and shouted.
  "Don't do that!"
  So everything became grey again. Before, John was using the magic to do small tricks. But this time, he wanted to do something thrilling. The bust was coming along the road to pick them up, and John moved Tom's body on the road. John thought,
  'The bus is quite far away from us, so Tom will be able to avoid it. But it will make him be afraid, and don't bully me!'
  A few minutes later, the magic finished and Tom realized that he was on the road. John was so happy to see Tom frightened, but soon he realized that Tom was too frightened to move his feet. He was in danger of a car accident.

The Princess Bride

Have you heard any stories about princesses?
  Cinderella, The Snow White, The Sleeping Beauty……. There are many fairy tales about princesses, and I believe that you've heard at lest one of them. But I'm now oing to introduce you the most interesting princess story, The Princess Bride. The movie was made in 1987 by Rob Reiner. (What an old movie! It is even older than me.) In the movie, Buttercup and Wrestley loved each other, but Westley left her and didn't come back for a long time. However, when Buttercup had to marry a prince whom didn't love, Westley came back and rescued her. As you heard, it is a beautiful story. So let me explain more with this movie.

  The beginning of this movie takes place in a normal house. A grandfather visited the house and told a story to his grandson, which is the main plot of this movie. Once upon a time, there lived a woman named Buttercup and a man named Westley. They loved each other, more than anyone else in the world. But Westley left Buttercup because of his works and didn't come back for a long time. And five years later, Buttercup had to get married with Prince Humperdinck, even though she didn't love him at all. However, Westley came back and tried to rescue Buttercup with the help of Fezzik and Inigo. There were a lot of hardships on their way, such as fire swamp and quick sand. Westley has even died in Pit of Despair but came alive by Miracle Max. But regardless of all the hardships they went through, Westley succeeded in rescuing Buttercup. And as all fairy tale stories say, they lived happily ever after.

  Overall, I think it was a great movie for some reasons. First of all, the movie made me imagine about the world of fantasy. In the movie, there were many imaginary places like fire swamp and pit of despair. All the places were so creative and unique that I imagined things like 'What if the places really existed in the real world?'. You might think that it is a silly question, but it was very interesting to imagine those things. Second, the main actor, Cary Elwes(Westley in the movie), was so handsome. The other actors were handsome(beautiful) too, but it was Cary Elwes that made me concentrates on the movie.

  On the other hand, I noticed some weak points of this movie that disrupted me from concentrating. To begin with, some parts of the movie were to realistic. For instance, there was a story that Westly died, but came alive with the help of Miracle Max. Even though it was a serious part, everyone couldn't stop laughing. In addition, the plot of this movie was so easy to guess. In other words, the story was very typical. My friend slept for thirty minutes while watching the movie, but she said that she could understand the movie.

  One thing that I also want to mention about the movie is the lesson. By watching Buttercup and Westley, I could learn about what 'true love' is. They had a lot of hardships on their way, but they were able to stand it since they strongly loved and trusted each other. Westley tried his best to keep Buttercup safe from hardships and Buttercup believed until the last moment that Westley would be coming back for her. I learned that true love triumphs over everything.

  Also, I could learn about significant qualities of a leader from Inigo. Inigo is not a main character in the movie, but he played quite an essential role. In his early years, his father was killed by a man with six fingers. So he tried to find the man throughout his life. At last, he was able to find the man and get a revenge. It's a simple story, but we can learn a lot from Inigo. First of all, he never gave up, It was almost impossible to find the six-fingered man, but Inigo didn't give up and made a revenge. If I am a leader, people wouldn't always listen to me, and sometimes ignore me. But I'm not going to give up but try again. People will get to know about my real feeling and follow my instructions. Moreover, Inigo taught me that continuous practice makes a perfect leader. It is not an easy thing to become a great leader, because you need to have charisma and be able to give an impressive speech. However, long period of experiences and practice will make you a perfect leader.

  I think that 'The Princess Bride' was a great movie that taught me about true love and qualities of a leader. Tonight, try watching this movie before going to bed. It will be a great experience for you. I'm leaving a trailer video of the movie. Hope you enjoy ! :D

Life full of ENERGY ! (My Three Goals)

What do you want to do now?
What do you want to achieve?

 The things that you want to achieve, or goals, are the most significant things in your life. Goals make your life energetic, memorable, and happy. After watching a TED video of Matt Cutts, I decided to create three goals and try to achieve those during the GLPS.
  First of all, I will read thirty pages of a book each day. I have a book that I always wanted to read. I will tell my father to send the book and I will read it during the camp. When I finish reading the book, I can borrow another book from the library. I am really busy these days, but I think I have some time before going to bed. I will read the book every night, and record it.
  My second goal is eating healthful food. Compared to other teenagers, I tend to eat a lot of fast foods and snacks. So I MUST consume more healthful food. Therefore, I will try to consume more than five pieces of salad when it is on our menu. I think that consuming salad regularly will make me much healthier than before. Moreover, I will try to drink more than five cups of water every day.
  Finally, I want to exercise every day, and it is my last goal. Even though I consume salad in every meal, I won't get healthy enough because I don't have enough muscles. Therefore, I am going to exercise for ten minutes on my bed, before going to sleep. If I get used to exercising for ten minutes, I will then exercise for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, and so on. I believe that someday, I will be able to exercise for an hour.
  I hope I succeed in all my goals. Then I will be a healthy girl who reads a book every day. Leave me a comment so that I can get more confidence.
